Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services #1
Position title: Maternal & Child Health Intern
Nebraska conducts a comprehensive needs assessment every five years to guide maternal and child health (MCH) efforts across the state. We are currently amid this process, working with partners statewide to analyze data and identify key priorities for five MCH population domains. By April, these efforts will culminate in a list of the top 7-10 priorities that will shape Nebraska’s Title V Maternal and Child Health Block Grant initiatives over the next five years. We seek an intern to join our Title V team to help transform these identified needs into actionable strategies. The intern will play a critical role in developing detailed action plans for each priority, contributing directly to improving the health and well-being of Nebraska’s mothers, children, and families. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in public health planning, data-driven decision-making, and collaborative program development.

Lincoln Electric System #1
Position title: Sustainability Customer Program Intern
LES offers a pilot incentives program aimed at assisting property owners in upgrading their buildings with improved insulation, high-efficiency heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, and smart thermostats. These upgrades benefit housing that serves Lincoln’s most underserved communities by significantly reducing energy usage and lowering their utility bills. The intern will collaborate with the energy services team to assess LES' current efforts in promoting energy efficiency within the affordable housing sector.
The intern will develop a program proposal and presentation that highlights industry trends, best practices, challenges, and recommendations for improvement of the current pilot program. If time permits, the intern will also develop a centralized sustainability resource library for LES’ website, covering topics such as heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, insulation and duct sealing, solar energy, and electric vehicles. These documents will educate and empower LES customers to make informed decisions about energy efficiency and electrification.

Lincoln Electric System #2
Position title: Resource Recovery and Waste Reduction Intern
LES is a progressive leader, partnering with the community to maximize energy value and
quality of life in an environmentally-responsible manner. To support this mission, LES is looking
for a creative self-starter who is interested in taking on challenges that don’t have a defined
solution. This position will work directly with the Environmental Specialist to develop a baseline
waste inventory with volume estimates in order to identify priority waste streams that can be
optimally recovered, thereby reducing the amount of waste going to the landfill. Tasks will
include walkthroughs of facilities to identify waste streams and volumes, development of a
waste inventory tracking tool along with data input, research on waste recovery opportunities,
brainstorming creative ways to recover materials, and implementing the steps to recover them
as time and budget allow. -

Position title: Responsible Carbon Offsets Intern
In response to climate change, all major utilities in Nebraska have set carbon reduction goals.
LES’ goal is to be net-zero by the year 2040. Meeting this goal will include understanding
available carbon-reduction technologies and incentives, and being able to select responsible
and effective solutions. We are looking for a self-starting intern to assist us with building a
knowledge base of current opportunities, and a ranking system for evaluating opportunities. Responsibilities will include researching and summarizing available carbon offsets/reduction opportunities, assisting with developing metrics to evaluate these carbon-reduction opportunities, and meeting with industry professionals to better understand nuances of these challenges/opportunities. -
