TESTIMONIALS

Intern Foundry equipped me with the education, professional leadership skills, and something even more valuable - a vision for Nebraska's future. Through purpose-driven work, the program helped me move from a potential brain drain statistic to a community catalyst. I found my voice testifying before state legislators, built confidence mentoring peers, and discovered that staying in Nebraska isn't limiting; it's where I can lead the most meaningful change. Intern Foundry taught me that reversing brain drain starts with leaders who choose to stay, build, and inspire others to do the same.”

— Livia Ziskey, Spring 2024 and Summer 2025 Intern Foundry Student

"The Intern Foundry program has been so important to OutNebraska. The process is so supportive and each student we've worked with has been highly motivated to add to our work,"

— Abbi Swatsworth, Executive Director, OutNebraska

"We love officing within The Foundry. The community connections are invaluable, the IF internship program has been incredibly beneficial to our organization, and the leadership provided by Julie is inspiring.  The Foundry team ensures that we are equipped with the tools and space to bring our mission to life and make an impact with our community."

— Tiffani Childress, Linked2Literacy

“One of the most important things I learned through the Intern Foundry program was how to blaze my own trail...I’m so grateful to the Foundry for helping me build that foundation.”

— Drew Baldridge, 2023 intern and 2024 coordinator

"The first meeting with [Base Camp Foundry] , I explained what my frustrations were, and they gave me the perspective shift I needed to make everything make sense. It was a relief because I was so close to getting there and I was stuck. Their help has re-positioned me to continue better prepared and better equipped."

Back-To-School Supplies You Can Donate

Close-up of crayons in rainbow order.

The back-to-school rush is officially here. While many families are busy checking off their own supply lists, it is important to remember that this season can cause significant financial stress for others. By stepping up as a community, we can ensure every student has what they need to succeed from day one.

If you are looking to contribute and help local families, here is an updated list of essential items you can donate to make a real difference:

The Classics

  • Backpacks: A sturdy bag is essential but can be a pricey investment. Providing a new or gently used backpack gives a student a reliable way to carry their gear.
  • Three-Ring Binders & Notebooks: Organizational must-haves for keeping coursework sorted. Both wide-ruled and college-ruled spiral notebooks are always in high demand.
  • Pocket Folders: Simple two-pocket folders are perfect for students of all grade levels to keep track of assignments.
  • Pencils & Pens: Whether you opt for mechanical or classic wooden pencils, no classroom can ever have enough. To go right along with them, blue, black, and red pens are daily essentials for older students taking notes and grading assignments.
  • Markers, Colored Pencils, & Crayons: Fresh coloring supplies are elementary school staples that help spark creativity and make students feel included in art projects.
  • Pencil Cases: A dedicated box or pouch helps kids keep their new writing utensils organized.
  • Scissors & Rulers: Reliable straightedges and classroom-safe scissors are crucial for math, science, and crafts.
  • Index Cards: A timeless study aid for creating flashcards and keeping track of presentation notes.
  • Erasers: Because everyone makes mistakes while learning!

Modern Classroom Must-Haves

  • Headphones or Earbuds: With the rise of digital learning, personal audio gear is frequently required for tablets, Chromebooks, and interactive lessons.
  • Reusable Water Bottles: Hydration stations are the new norm in most schools, making durable water bottles a fantastic and eco-friendly donation.
  • Dry Erase Markers: Teachers use these constantly on whiteboards and often have to replenish their own supply out of pocket.
  • Disinfecting Wipes & Hand Sanitizer: Keeping the learning environment clean and germ-free is a top priority, making these hygiene supplies invaluable.
  • Boxes of Tissues: Classrooms go through these quickly, and teachers greatly appreciate having a stockpile to keep sniffles at bay.

Where to Donate
Not sure where to drop off your altruistic haul? Here are a few great places to start:

  • Local Schools: Call the front office of neighborhood schools and ask if they accept direct supply drop-offs for students in need.
  • Community Nonprofits: Look for local chapters of the Boys & Girls Club, the YMCA, or foster care support networks.
  • Supply Drives: Keep an eye out for seasonal donation bins hosted by local businesses, grocery stores, or places of worship.

This list is just a starting point. Consider picking up a few extra items during your next shopping trip to add an extra splash of altruism to this back-to-school season!
