Foundry Members OutNebraska and Star City Pride Create Space for LGBTQ+ Athletes
Foundry Members OutNebraska and Star City Pride recently came together this past weekend to host a community sports event that was about far more than the games being played. All Out Sports Day was a fun gathering but also a demonstration of what's possible when organizations show up for Nebraska's LGBTQ+ community together.
Attendees tried their hand at a variety of activities, and OutNebraska and Star City Pride were on hand to educate and connect folks with resources and support. At a time when transgender and gender nonconforming people face mounting legislative and cultural attacks, events like this push back with something simple yet powerful, an affirming environment.
“The biggest impact of the event was to help show the community that we are working to make space for and encourage affirming and positive sports,” noted Bailee Martin, OutNebraska Community Organizer.
The ease with which this collaboration bloomed is no accident. These organizations not only share values, but physical space. Both are part of our coworking community here at the Foundry. When you're working out of the same building, relationships deepen, conversations happen organically, and partnerships form faster.
The Foundry has become something of a home base for mission-driven work in Lincoln, and the connection between OutNebraska and Star City Pride is a natural example of what that kind of community can produce. Proximity fosters trust, and trust makes collaboration like this one possible.
